Weekly Beats 2024 vs House Move
It’s going to take a while to recenter and find direction this year.
I joined Weekly Beats 2024 this year as I was moving from Hornsby to Leichhardt and it was incredibly confronting. Moving takes so much energy, it was this eternal three week slog, to clamber out of an old life and into a new one. I’m only just simmering down a month after the move into my new life and it’s strange.
I had to change a lot of things about myself these past few years, and one of the hardest was that I knew I had to find a strong circle of creative friends — which meant defocussing from old connections that just weren’t aligned in order to make space for what is new. And those new connections have been blossoming into such incredible relationships, but the ache is still there.
Big changes, big dreams, returning nightmares.
The exhaustion from moving is still there. It was one of those things that takes way longer than you anticipate and nobody involved is happy about it. But we pack it up, move along, and move on. I’m really proud of how I’ve been able to keep up with these beats. And very grateful to everybody who helped me move, and all my friends for being wonderful. It’s going to take a while to recenter and find direction this year.
Despite everything, I managed to stick with it through the house move before I couldn’t do it anymore and needed to shake up the creative energy again. I ended up recording a song a day for almost two weeks, and those songs turned into my 2024 album ‘Sunshine Special’.
What was your last house move like?
