Rest Your Wings
Let our friends rest and be held and soothed. To shrink, even, instead of endlessly grow.

My friend called me in tears . . .
“It’s all too much and nobody’s listening to me when I say I’m uncomfortable”
She was part of a lot of projects this month, and it was all overwhelming and disappointing — lacking care.
I told her I’m sorry it’s been like this, I tried not to have any answers. I just listened for a while and helped her relax and come back to herself. Eventually she was feeling more centered and hopeful or at least neutral.
Many situations are an opportunity for growth BUT some days we don’t need any fucking growth, we need love and care and friends and hugs and tea and warmth and rest! Let us tend to our burns before we go philosophising about what the best way to touch fire is. To grow is painful, agonising and disorienting a lot of the time. No. Let our friends rest and be held and soothed. To shrink, even, instead of endlessly grow.
I was writing a song a day as a challenge to myself and wrote this song thinking about that friend, how far she’s come in her musical journey, and how pressured we are to burn the fuck out on the alter of success.
What does burning out feel like for you?
Rest Your Wings by Aemyn
Oh, rest your weary mindWhen you wake up you’ll be fine, againOh, my love, take your timeThe fall teaches us to fly
You’ve got all you need to shineI’ll see you off into the sky, againCall me if you ever need to cryWhat’s mine is yours, whats yours is mine
Rest your wings now, little IcarusWe’ve got a long way yet to go
Sleep until you learnTo dream again
Dancing between hope and arroganceHave you been hiding from your friendsWe’ve come to wax your beautiful wingspanAnd we’ll be here when you’re home again
Rest your wings now, little IcarusWe’ve got a long way yet to goSleep until youLearn to dream againLearn to dream again
Rest Your Wings ended up being part of my 2024 album ‘Sunshine Special’ which is available on Bandcamp & other streaming services.
